Every four to five years the DTR hosts a twin party in the grounds of St Thomas’ as a thank you to volunteers of TwinsUK. Most recently, we hosted a 21st anniversary party, packed with talks, interactive activities, stalls, food and entertainment for 700 twins.
In 2009, we hosted another twin party http://www.twinsuk.ac.uk/twin-zone/photos/ which the BBC filmed for the ‘The Secret Life of Twins’; exploring what science can learn from the uncanny similarities between twins.

NATIONAL TWIN DAY
At the National Twin Day UK 2014 at Wicksteed Park, organised by the Twins Gift Company, TwinsUK researchers, Dr Kirsten Ward and Sarah Metrustry, supported by Dr Lynn Cherkas presented a general overview of our research (genomic, epigenomic, metabolomic and microbiome) and explained how twins can contribute to science and what a twin research visit entails. TwinsUK also exhibited a stand during the day with a few fun quick tests for people to try. The researchers were available to answer questions throughout the day.
