Our diet studies are using those boring but crucial questionnaires you filled in years ago about your food habits to help us in many ways.

People who eat more fruit and vegetables are generally healthier than those that eat fatty foods and vegetarians are generally healthier and live 7 years longer than meat eaters.

We are looking at diet and how fast we age- by studying markers of our biological clock called telomeres.

As this is a twin study we found that what foods you select are in part under genetic control – so if you prefer egg and bacon to fruit and vegetables and even love of garlic may be down to your genes. We are now trying to identify the genes involved.
